Program Description | Partners | More Information

Northwest Empowering Communities, Helping Others is a program to strengthen community- and faith-based organizations serving youth in at-risk circumstances in Northwest Pasadena/Altadena. Flintridge is providing customized training and technical assistance to the two dozen participating organizations. The goal of the partnership is to enhance the capacity of community groups to respond to the challenges that youth face growing up in our society. In addition, the agencies will explore ways in which they can work together to maximize their impact on the community.

The training activities will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual partners. These include workshops, one-on-one guidance from professional consultants and peer learning opportunities. The program's focus is on increasing skill levels in the areas of leadership and organizational development, program quality, and community engagement. The Foundation hosts presentations by experts in the fields of youth development and violence prevention, and will help link participants to beneficial resources.

The Northwest ECHO program is funded in part by a $750,000 Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The three-year grant is part of a national initiative to reduce gang involvement, youth violence, and child abuse and neglect. Collaborations are encouraged between the nonprofit partners to develop communitywide solutions that will meet young people's needs. The grant enables Flintridge, as the coordinating agency, to develop its own capacity to offer services as well.

Northwest ECHO partners offer services and programs that provide youth with alternatives to gang involvement and support them in reaching their full educational and human potential.
