In June 2006, Flintridge Foundation announced changes to its program focus. The Conservation, Theatre and Visual Arts programs would be concluded and, instead of supporting four program areas, Foundation resources would primarily be invested in direct services to build the capacity of the community where Flintridge's endowment was created and where it is headquartered—Northwest Pasadena and Altadena, CA.
To support this decision, Flintridge Foundation will award the greater part of its endowment to the new Flintridge Operating Foundation, which will provide direct programming instead of grants.

Strengthening Community
Since 1993, Flintridge has helped build the capacity of nonprofit organizations serving children and families in Northwest Pasadena and Altadena. The Community Services program provides technical assistance and training to encourage organizational development, enhanced leadership capacity and responsible organizational management. The Northwest ECHO program offers customized support to strengthen 23 community- and faith-based organizations that are fostering positive youth development and alternatives to gang involvement. These programs will both continue under the umbrella of the new Flintridge Operating Foundation.
Flintridge Operating Foundation will provide direct services that build the internal strength, efficiency and long-term viability of community-based organizations. The services will encompass a broadened scope to better address the needs of under-served children and youth in our community.
Conservation and the Arts to Have a Local Focus
Flintridge's commitment to environmental sustainability and artistic creativity will continue. These values are essential elements of the Foundation's vision. However, conservation and the arts will now become part of an integrated approach to benefit our local community.
Promoting Community Well-Being
Flintridge Operating Foundation's Board is engaged in intensive strategic planning to determine how the Flintridge Operating Foundation could have the most impact. This has involved examining unmet community needs through an assessment process, conducting focus groups and visiting local organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the community's assets and strengths. As always, we will rely on listening, learning and maintaining open and respectful channels of communication in the spirit of fostering true partnerships.
New Website to be Designed
We are designing a brand new website for Flintridge Operating Foundation. In the meantime, information about programs and services will be hosted on this website.
Final grants previously committed in 2006 and 2007 in the areas of Conservation (11 organizations) and Theatre (16 ensemble theatre companies and the Network of Ensemble Theaters) will be disbursed in 2008.
Flintridge is no longer offering Awards for Visual Artists, but information about the ten-year program and the artists who received awards will be archived on the Flintridge Foundation website.
